WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EDGEWOOD?

Edgewood has been a place of growth, connection, and opportunity. After transferring from another institution, Vimbai chose Edgewood University for its strong nursing program and the supportive, welcoming community.

“I wanted a school where I could receive personalized attention from faculty and feel part of a community, she says — and that’s exactly what I found.”

WHAT HAS YOUR ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE?

Clinical experiences have been the most meaningful part of Vimbai’s journey, allowing her to apply classroom knowledge to the patient care experience. Through both instruction and hands-on practice, she’s developed stronger empathy, problem-solving skills, and confidence to apply to her career as a future nurse.

“With small class sizes, my professors know me personally. This makes it so much easier to build relationships, participate in class discussions, network, and thrive academically.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE ADJUSTING TO LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES?

Adjusting to a new culture came with challenges – from homesickness to navigating practical matters like banking and transportation. Support from the Center for Global Education, her professors, and fellow international students helped Vimbai feel grounded and supported, eventually turning Madison into a true “home away from home.”

“The same courage that inspired my decision to study in the United States helped me once I arrived at Edgewood University.”

HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED TO HOME WHILE BUILDING A LIFE HERE?

Being far from home isn’t always easy, but Vimbai has found comfort in building community at Edgewood and staying connected to her culture through friendships and shared traditions. From exploring Madison’s outdoor spaces to spending time with other international students, she’s experienced a deep sense of belonging that makes campus feel like home.

“I’ve learned how important community is. Finding people who support you, understand you, and make you feel welcome makes all the difference, especially when you’re far from home.”
