Family Science Night

Family Science Night to be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024!

Family Science Night, also referred to as the Science Spring Spectacular, has been wowing families with children of all ages for more than two decades! This year’s event is an in-person event and will be held in the beautiful Sonderegger Science Center on the Edgewood campus.  This year’s event will feature more than 20 hands-on, science based projects/stations for kids (and parents) to explore.

And, best of all- this is a completely FREE event. The event will run from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Parking is free on the Edgewood Campus.

Each year, Family Science continues to grow. Many families who participate are from the Madison area, but we’ve heard of families driving in from as far away as Janesville and Portage. Projects & science stations have included topics such as fermentation (think Kombucha), fun with liquid nitrogen (shattering roses and marshmallows), learning how your eyes work, fossil exploration and a much, much more. From biology to physics – Family Science Night has something for everyone.

Summer Research Partnership with Madison Country Day School

What is the MCDS Summer Research Academy?

The Summer Research Academy (SRA) is a partnership between Madison Country Day School and Edgewood College. Students will have the opportunity to engage in authentic science research, mentored by practicing scientists.

There are three goals for this intensive program:

  • Learn about a new area of scientific research from experts in the field
  • Design and carry out your own scientific investigation
  • Reflect on the process of doing science and develop research skills that will be useful throughout your academic career

Who can participate?

SRA is open to motivated science students entering grades 9-12.

Space is limited! Each session will be capped at 10 students.

When is it?

There are four different programs that students can register for. Each program is two weeks long. Two workshops will meet concurrently during the first two-week session and the other two workshops meet concurrently for the second two weeks.

Each workshop meets 9 a.m.–4 p.m. each day. On the final day of the session, the students will participate in a poster session showcasing their work. Families and friends will be invited to attend.
