Athletic Performance Coach and Fitness Center Coordinator
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Athletic Performance Coach & Fitness Center Coordinator designs and implements training programs to enhance athletic performance, prevent injuries, and promote overall health and wellness. This role leads training sessions, monitors athlete progress, and collaborates with athletic staff to ensure alignment with departmental goals.
In addition, this position oversees the daily operations and programming of the fitness center, supporting health, wellness, and student engagement in alignment with the College’s mission. The role also provides administrative support to the Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator, assisting with departmental logistics and operational needs.
Responsibilities:
Strength and Conditioning Coaching
- Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for sports teams and individual student-athletes during pre-season, in-season, and off-season periods.
- Provide instruction and supervision during training sessions.
- Develop and promote nutrition and hydration education for teams and individual athletes.
- Maintain current certification (CSCS or equivalent: SCCC, CSCCa, NCSF) and apply best practices in program design.
- Collaborate with head coaches on student-athlete development plans.
- Track and report fitness metrics to assess progress toward performance goals.
- Partner with the Director of Sports Medicine on rehabilitation and reconditioning programs for injured athletes.
- Work collaboratively with other strength and conditioning staff to ensure consistent support for student-athletes.
Fitness Center Supervision
- Oversee daily operations of the fitness center, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate fitness and wellness programs for students, faculty, and staff.
- Manage facility scheduling, including open hours, group classes, and special events.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student workers and staff.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, safety inspections, and facility upkeep.
- Collaborate with campus departments to advance health, wellness, and recreation initiatives.
- Manage budgets, memberships, and usage data to ensure efficient operations.
Athletics Administrative Duties
- Provide administrative support to the Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator.
- Maintain access records for all athletic venues.
- Assist the event manager with game operations and event logistics.
- Maintain current liability waivers for all athletic facility users.
- Develop and manage nutrition stations for student-athletes.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent (SCCC, CSCCa, NCSF) certification required.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- General understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Commitment to the Edgewood College Mission and Values.
- Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Specialized Technology Skills:
- Proficiency with strength measurement tools and VOLT software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
