Director of Capstone and Research
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Director of Capstone and Research is responsible for enhancing the scholarly productivity of Edgewood University’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) students by overseeing all steps of the capstone process, from start to finish. The Director of Capstone and Research holds a full-time faculty appointment within the hybrid, accelerated OTD program. The position’s workload includes teaching, administration, scholarship, and service, consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator for the program and will collaborate and mentor students’ scholarly agendas.
- Provides strategic leadership for a program that develops sound scientific inquiry skills for all students.
- Provides guidance and direction related to the research-based curriculum requirements of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program.
- Provides oversight of student scholarly activities within the program, including research proposals, Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews, and project dissemination.
- Coordinates student placement and secures appropriate supervision in accordance with Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) standards for the Capstone Experience and Project.
- Assures there is appropriate guidance for student research activities through the selection and preparation of faculty and expert mentors.
- Serves as a liaison to the University’s office and committees related to research, grants, compliance, and other sponsored programs.
- Assists with the completion of the program’s accreditation activities in accordance with ACOTE standards.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Earned terminal academic doctorate in occupational therapy or a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities in the OTD Program.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for occupational therapy clinical education.
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of occupational therapy.
- Occupational therapist with an active, unrestricted license, eligible for licensure in Wisconsin.
- Should have an independent scholarly agenda.
- Participation in community and professional service appropriate to a faculty member.
- Familiarity with IRB policies and procedures.
Other Qualifications:
- Active in professional activities at the local, state, and/or national levels, including membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association and state occupational therapy association (either in home state or the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association).
- Familiarity with teaching, advising, and mentoring students in a hybrid learning environment.
- Participation in immersive labs on campus one to two times per semester.
- At least two years of experience as a practicing occupational therapist.
