DESCRIPTION OF JOB:     

Edgewood University seeks a Healthcare Education Simulation Technologist.  This is a hybrid simulation role, performing a wide range of responsibilities needed to support simulation experiences, lab coordination responsibilities, and CPR coordination across multiple sites and programs and in direct coordination with the simulation team at Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation (CHES) and Edgewood University faculty and staff.

The position will support a variety of technical and program needs of simulation and skills lab operations as well as CPR coordination across all sites including but not limited to operating simulators; performing general preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of simulators and simulation technology; supporting set up and take down of supplies and equipment; supporting inventory management and ordering of supplies and equipment; coordinating CPR classes at CHES, and assisting Healthcare Education Simulation Specialists to carry out their roles. The technologist is responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative and effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, instructors, students, staff, and visitors to the sites.

The position requires travel to multiple simulation sites throughout Wisconsin, including but not limited to Madison, Janesville, and Beloit, with scheduling based on program needs.

Responsibilities:

Support the Simulation, Skills Lab, and CPR Course Experiences

  • Assist in the delivery of simulations that are appropriate to the learners/participants.
    • Perform troubleshooting assistance with simulation operations and technical support as needed.
    • Prepare scenario props and moulage.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent application of simulation best practices.
    • Operate manikins/simulators, audio/video equipment, classroom monitors, patient monitors, speakers and microphones.
    • Participate in collaborative evaluation and identification of ways to improve the simulation or skills lab experience.
    • Serve as a patient voice or actor for appropriate simulation.
  • Set up of laboratory and classroom spaces at multiple sites.
    • Collaborate with team members in the coordination of weekly set up / clean-up of simulation and skills experiences at multiple sites, including arrange/set up supplies and equipment according to weekly lesson plans; ensure proper staging; clean and reset after use.
    • Maintain inventory of general medical supplies and equipment; monitor quantities and expirations to prevent depletion or surplus, repackage supplies that can be repurposed for activities.
  • Coordinate CPR classes held at CHES in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA) Faculty Coordinator, AHA Training Center, and CHES Staff
    • Schedule classes
    • Set up/take down of CPR supplies and equipment for each class
    • Coordinate paperwork and issuance of eCards as required by AHA
    • Teaching of classes occasionally

Maintain Human Simulators and Simulation Technology 

  • Perform operational checks and maintenance on simulators, participate in scheduled preventive maintenance of simulators with vendor technicians; review technical notes from scheduled preventive maintenance sessions and make recommendations to leaders for upgrades, repairs, or replacements.
  • Clean equipment per manufacturer recommendations to prolong condition and prevent deterioration.
  • Ensure simulation technology and equipment is kept secure and safe.
  • Install new software or hardware upgrades to simulation technology and lab equipment as needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment repairs and failures, consult with technical support or vendor as necessary.
  • Ensure simulators are charged, functioning, and ready for use.
  • Maintain an understanding of, and utilize as appropriate, vendor contracts and equipment warranties.

Collaborate on Daily Operations

  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of classroom and lab spaces in collaboration with team members.
  • Communicate with instructors about any equipment failures, weather-related changes, or events that may impact their simulation or lab sessions.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as needed.
  • Maintain a professional and safe environment for all users.
  • Collaborate on the development, maintenance, and enforcement of documented lab policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain related forms such as Confidentiality or Release Forms.

Assist Leaders in Growth and Management of Programs 

  • Participate in and contribute to strategic planning meetings.
  • Advocate for integration of simulation standards of best practice into courses overall operations.
  • Contribute to planning of annual budgets s needed.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of lab resources.
  • Participate in marketing including but not limited to conducting tours of simulation and lab spaces and conducting sample simulations

Maintain Professional Development 

  • Advance knowledge and skills and commit to working toward simulation certification.
  • Maintain competencies in technology.
  • Continuously seek and apply information on best practices in simulation education.
  • Attend conferences and training sessions regularly to increase and maintain knowledge related to simulation education.
  • Research future simulation products

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of health-related work experience preferably with medical/surgical critical care, pediatric, OB, ICU, EMS, or paramedic areas required
  • BLS instructor certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months required
  • Teaching, training, or precepting experience (formal or informal) required
  • Current licensure or certification in a healthcare discipline (e.g. RN, EMT, paramedic, etc.) preferred
  • Experience conducting healthcare simulations or courses on skills development preferred

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Broad understanding of computer technology and electronics as person will work with an array of technology including high-fidelity simulators, audiovisual, network and information systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint,
  • Internet and database use
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple items simultaneously
  • Work well under pressure
  • Self- motivated and require little to no supervision with the ability to work independently
  • Exemplary demonstration of professionalism, commitment, and loyalty
  • Ability to perform independently at all site locations
