Kim Sponem has served as President and CEO of Summit Credit Union, Wisconsin’s largest credit union, since 2002. Under her leadership, Summit has grown from $200 million in assets to more than $8.1 billion and 276,000 members. A recognized industry leader and innovator, Kim is known for advancing financial wellness, strengthening communities, and championing women’s financial security and economic empowerment.
Today, Summit is Wisconsin’s leading mortgage lender and has been the state’s top credit union provider of Small Business Administration loans for more than a decade. Guided by Kim’s focus on member success and community impact, Summit has expanded from four locations to more than 58 branches across Wisconsin, including branches in four Madison high schools and one charter middle school that help students build financial knowledge and confidence.
Kim’s commitment to financial education and workplace culture has earned national recognition. Under her leadership, Summit has received four Governor’s Financial Literacy Awards, including the Legacy Award, and has been repeatedly recognized as a Top Workplace and Best Place to Work locally and nationally. In 2025, Summit was named Large Business of the Year by In Business magazine.
A passionate advocate for closing wealth and retirement savings gaps, Kim has led innovative efforts to help women and families build stronger financial futures. She is also a strong supporter of initiatives that expand access to education, economic opportunity, and community prosperity throughout Wisconsin.
Her leadership has been recognized through numerous honors, including induction into America’s Credit Union Museum and the CUES Hall of Fame. In 2024, she was named a Legend of the Movement by the Wisconsin Credit Union League Foundation. In 2025, she was recognized as a Wisconsin 275 Leader and a Notable Credit Union Leader by BizTimes Media and named an In Business Power 100 Leader.
Beyond Summit, Kim serves on the boards of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, TruStage Insurance, Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) Corporation, and United Way of Dane County, where she chaired the 2025 campaign. She also previously served on the Edgewood University Board of Trustees.
Kim earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from Edgewood University. She has more than 35 years of financial services experience and lives in Monona, Wisconsin with her husband, Mark. They have three children: Aspen Jo, Mason, and Ross.
