Men’s Golf Achieves Both In and Out of the Classroom

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men’s golf team has placed themselves among the nation’s academically elite golf programs. The Eagles were one of just 24 teams nationwide, and one of only eight NCAA Division III programs to receive the 2015 President’s Special Recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The team recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.51 during the 2014-15 academic year, placing them in this special category. The other NCAA Division III schools to reach President’s Special Recognition status were Emory University, Kalamazoo College, the University of Redlands, Stevens Tech, Trine University, Washington & Lee University and GCAA Academic National Champion Webster University.

Lancaster, Wis. native Zach Hentrich (now a sophomore) led the Eagles by posting a perfect 4.00 grade point average in his first year of college, while earning first team All-NACC honors. In all, five of the eight members of head coach Gary Oftedahl’s team earned NACC Scholar-Athlete recognition. Two other NACC programs, Dominican University and MSOE, were also recognized as All-Academic Teams.

Edgewood College placed fourth in the NACC in the 2014-2015 season, but were just three strokes away from the championship. The Eagles have won three of the last five NACC championships and five conference title in their history.
