Biofeedback

Personal Counseling Services (PCS) offers biofeedback appointments, which are great for students who want to learn to reduce stress, better manage anxiety, or learn quick and effective relaxation techniques. Biofeedback appointments are free, confidential, and unlimited.

The premise behind biofeedback is that if we monitor a body function, we can learn to control that function. The biofeedback equipment used at PCS is the “emWAVE Pro” software, which monitors your heart rate variability using an ear sensor.

In your first biofeedback appointment, a counselor will review with you how to use the software and understand what it is telling you about your current stress level. The ultimate goals are for you to use that information to better understand when you are stressed and to practice how to use relaxation techniques effectively.

The tutorial with the counselor will last anywhere from 15-25 minutes. After the tutorial, you are invited to use the equipment independently in the remaining appointment time and schedule subsequent appointments in the future. Biofeedback appointments last up to 45 minutes.

Biofeedback sessions take place in Dominican 122. To schedule, please call Personal Counseling Services at (608) 663-4148 or stop by Dominican 122.
