About the Edgewood College Writing Center
Who is the Writing Center for? What kind of writing can you help me with?
We help all undergraduate and graduate writers on all kinds of writing—from English 110 essays to nursing literature reviews to cover letters--at any stage of the writing process.
What is a writing session like?
During a tutoring session, we will ask you what you want to work on (so it’s helpful if you come with a question or an idea), look over your writing, and have a conversation about steps you might want to take with your writing. Bringing the directions for the assignment is always helpful.
If you submit a writing assignment online, you will receive written feedback. Writing tutors have 48 hours to return a paper.
What can I learn about writing?
We help with everything from brainstorming ideas to crafting a thesis statement to analysis to grammar and citations. We do not edit papers—tutors won’t fix all of your commas, for instance—but we do help you learn to edit your own work.

Meet the Writing Tutors!
My name is Alex Krause and I’m a junior at Edgewood, and I am a biology and environmental sciences major with a chemistry minor! Naturally, I really enjoy working with lab reports, research papers, and other science-specific papers. I have been through a wide array of courses spanning biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, and geosciences. The chances are pretty high that I’ve seen any given science paper at least once, though there are definitely a few that catch me off guard. In my free time, I enjoy making or writing music, fishing, spending time with my friends and family, and hiking or adventuring outside. At home, I have two twin-sister dogs named Kaylie and Maggie and in Madison with me, I have a pet crested-gecko named Chadley. I really enjoy getting to know other students while working with them, so please don’t be shy, and we can have good conversations about writing and life!
I am a Junior student, majoring in Nursing and minoring in Nutrition. In my free time, I like to read, go on outdoor walks, listen to music, and spend time with family and friends. One fun fact about me is that I am the oldest out of all four of my younger siblings!
I love working in the Writing Center because it gives me the opportunity to meet other students and help each student grow as a writer. I really enjoy learning more about all of the classes on campus through assignments that students bring into the Center. I like to work with any and all papers!
Hi! My name is Annemarie and I am a junior studying Environmental Science, but I have changed my major three times, so I have basically taken all of the entry level classes. I enjoy tutoring education papers as well as science papers. My hobbies include finding cool hiking places around Madison, reading, and watching New Girl.
Another fun fact about me is that I really love dogs, and I recently just got a yellow lab puppy named Olive! In my free time, I volunteer at a Madison-based organization called Occupaws, which trains puppies to be guide dogs for people who are visually impaired. This is my first year at the Writing Center, and I am very excited to work with all of you!
Hello! My name is Annika Lundgren, and I am a senior this year! I am a sociology major (which took me a loooooooong time to figure out, but it’s totally fine). I really enjoy working on Nursing and English papers, but I will gladly help with anything! I play basketball here at Edgewood, and I also love listening to music (specifically Avril Lavigne), paddle-boarding, playing cards, and watching Grey's Anatomy! I have a dog, 2 cats, and a bird. My dog's name is Oskar - he is a fluffy german shephard, and he is the love of my life. My cats' names are Salvatore and Zoe, and my bird's name is Sweetie! I also have an older sister, Hannah, and we grew up in California! My favorite color is green, and I love chocolate milk more than water 🙂 I hope you have a great semester!
Hi! I’m Ellie Olbinski, a sophomore studying history with a minor in global studies and biology. My expertise is in Chicago Style papers, but I love working on any subject because it allows me to learn something new. I have taken science classes for my biology minor, so I have a good understanding of APA style papers. Art, global culture, environmental, and historical topics are some of my favorite topics to read about. My hobbies include baking, reading and watching movies. I have two pets, a cat named Kitty who’s almost ten and a pug puppy named Pippen who is turning one in October. Last year I worked as a dorm writing tutor, so this is my first year working in the Writing Center.
I’m Kallie! I’m a sophomore studying for an English major and a Neuroscience minor, so I love reading research papers and literary analyses. I’m also always excited about history papers, ethics assignments, and political science, but I’m happy to read up on any subject. Beyond schoolwork, I enjoy crafts like cross stitch and weaving, reading fiction and fantasy, and doing any kind of puzzle. This is my first year working in the Writing Center, and I’m excited to work with people to improve their writing!
Prefers working on Art, Education, English, History, Music, Social Studies and all other papers! I am on my fourth of five years here at Edgewood College and I am majoring in both Art and Design Teaching and Music Promotion and Industry. Once I graduate, I would like to find a job as a middle school art teacher. In my free time, I love playing my cello and spending time with my cat Riley. My favorite season is fall, and I am in love with pumpkin spice lattes. If I’m not in the Writing Center, I’m in the practice rooms or in the Stream. I am also a supervisor for the Residence Hall Tutor Program, and I love being able to help everyone I can!
Hello! I'm Nora-Kathleen, a junior double majoring in English and Political Science. I transferred here this fall from Madison College, where I tutored for a year in the writing center there. While staying at home with family during the pandemic, I've spent my free time sewing, listening to audiobooks, and keeping my three younger siblings entertained (a difficult task). Truth be told, I like helping students with anything and everything, but some favorite subject areas are literature, history, political science, philosophy, and speech. I'm familiar with MLA, APA, and Chicago style, so if you have formatting questions, I can try my best to help!
Hi! My name is Sam Pierson, and I am a senior majoring in nursing. After graduation, I hope to work in an intensive care unit and eventually continue my education to become a nurse anesthetist; on the other hand, I love Labor & Delivery, so maybe I will do that!
I enjoy working on nursing and science-related papers, but I also love reading about English and literature. It is so cool to see how everyone has a unique voice in their writing, and I hope to preserve that as I tutor.
When I am not doing schoolwork, I enjoy being with friends, listening to music, painting, and being active. If you book an appointment with me, I will probably have a coffee close by. I have two dogs at home named Rocco and Tucker I look forward to working with you on your papers and making you a better writer!
Hi everyone! My name is Skylar Olson. I am a sophomore here at Edgewood, and I am studying nursing. I also have a minor in Spanish. I have most of my writing background in scientific papers or lab reports. I have also written papers for philosophy, religion, Spanish, cultural studies, and more. My favorite papers to read are about the sciences and/or human services. That being said, I am willing to work on any papers, and I can even take papers written in Spanish. I am passionate about working out, being outside, and spending time with my friends and family. I love hiking around the United States and biking in the cities. I work at an assisted living/ memory care facility back home, and I love it. My residents and coworkers are some of my favorite people in the world. This is the place where I first found my passion for health care, and I realized that this is the environment I am meant to work in forever. At home, I have two tiny dogs that are the cutest things ever, along with a wonderful support system that keeps me motivated every day!
Hello! I’m Deb, and I direct the Writing Center. While I like collaborating with students on all kinds of writing, I am particularly drawn to education pieces, research papers, personal essays, and fiction. I also know my way around APA.
I have a PhD from the UW-Madison in Curriculum and Instruction where I researched writing in classrooms. In the Writing Center and across campus, I think about questions like these: How does writing change us and others? How do we write with a skilled and ethical heart?
I live near Edgewood, so you might see me in the neighborhood. I love running by the lake, doing yoga, reading, writing, drinking tea, and hanging out with my husband and two teenagers. Picking apples is our favorite fall tradition. (They like making applesauce; I’m an apple crisp girl.)
We can’t wait to work with you!
