Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Students

On September 5, 2017, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued an official Memorandum of Rescission of DACA. This memorandum of rescission is effective immediately and orders a winding down process of the DACA program.

Due to federal court orders on Jan. 9, 2018 and Feb. 13, 2018, USCIS has resumed accepting requests to renew a grant of deferred action under DACA; however, USCIS is no longer accepting new requests from individuals who have never before been granted deferred action under DACA.

For additional information about DACA and who can file, please visit the USCIS DACA website.

History: On June 15, 2012, President Barack Obama introduced an executive memo, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), that offered undocumented persons, meeting specific criteria and requirements, deferred action of deportation. DACA also provided youth with the ability for work authorization. Although Deferred action does not provide lawful status, for many youth and DREAMers, this executive action provided hope and opportunity.
