Madison, Wis. (February 26, 2018) - Edgewood College recently celebrated theMathias-Lemos-Castillo Community Scholars Program at a special event for scholars, Trustees, and benefactors.

Since 2007, the Community Scholars program has awarded full tuition scholarships to reach historically under-represented local high school students on the basis of academic potential, financial need, demonstrated leadership, and a commitment to serving the community.

Mathias Lemos Castillo, a senior who will graduate in May with a degree in Political Science and Sociology, spoke on behalf of his fellow students.

“Today I am a scholar, an undergrad student, and a young professional. I have been able to get to this point in my career with the support of the Scholars program,” Castillo said. “A lot of changes have taken place in the last year, many of which have been particularly difficult. These changes have offered our community and our society a lot of room for improvement. I plan to utilize my college education to bring on better changes and to help our community in the long process of development. Part of those better changes is to give aspiring students a sense of hope and encouragement.”
