Finalists Announced for Next College President

Madison, Wis. (February 18, 2014) – Edgewood College today named three finalists in its Presidential Search process. In September of 2013, Dan Carey, the current President, announced his intention to retire. Dr. Carey will serve through the end of August 2014.

Each finalist will visit campus in the next few weeks. A portion of each candidate’s visit will include a campus presentation, which will be streamed live on www.edgewood.edu.

Elizabeth Burmaster
Libby Burmaster currently serves as President of Nicolet College in Rhinelander, Wis. Ms. Burmaster began her tenure at Nicolet College in 2009 after serving eight years as Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In that role she oversaw all public K-12 school districts in the state and served as a member of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, the Educational Communications Board, and the Governor’s Council on Workforce Investment.

In all, Ms. Burmaster has 34 years of experience in education, including extensive experience as a K-12 teacher and principal at every level - elementary, middle and for nearly a decade as the principal of Madison West High School. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and she is the recipient of honorary doctorates from Beloit College and Edgewood College.

Scott Flanagan
In his current role as Executive Vice President at Edgewood College, Dr. Scott Flanagan oversees admissions, advancement, financial aid, marketing and communications, and athletics. In addition, Flanagan coordinates institutional planning, leads the campus-wide effort to cultivate a campus climate of inclusion and serves as staff representative to the Board Committee on Trustees.

During his thirteen years at Edgewood College, full time enrollment has grown more than 50 percent while ethnic diversity and the size of the operating budget have more than doubled. Flanagan previously served as director of admissions and assistant vice president for enrollment services at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.). Flanagan is a regular presenter at national conferences, typically addressing trends in higher education or enrollment management, leadership, or Catholic higher education. He has also served as an enrollment management consultant.

Robert Pastoor
Dr. Robert Pastoor currently serves as the Vice President for Student Life at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. He joined the College in January of 2010. At Marietta, he is directly responsible for the direction and management of a comprehensive student affairs program serving 1,500 undergraduate students. Pastoor brings a wealth of experience in student life, including the development of first-year seminar programs, campus housing, judicial systems, academic warning programs, and a four-year learning model for student affairs integrated with academic learning outcomes.

He has more than 30 years of student affairs experience in higher education, including 20 years as vice president at four institutions. From 2002-04, Pastoor was Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of San Diego. He served as the President of St. John’s Catholic Prep in Frederick, Md. from 2005-09. He was Vice President for Student Life at Carroll College in Helena, Mont., from 1995-2002, and Vice President for Student Affairs at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., from 1987-95.
